Invoking Lord Vishnu & Goddess Lakshmi on Amalaki Ekadashi
Amalaki Ekadashi is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and the sacred Amla (Indian Gooseberry) tree. According to Hindu scriptures, the Amla tree was created directly from Lord Vishnu's divine essence and is blessed with the presence of all deities, especially Goddess Lakshmi.
When performed with strict Vedic procedure during the auspicious mahurat, this Vrat purifies the home energy, eliminates lingering obstacles, and grants long-term peace to all family members.
Part 1: Setting Up Your Home Altar (Pooja Mandir)
Proper preparation of your home worship space ensures an optimal flow of positive vibrations. Follow these four simple steps:
Step 1: Purification & Direction
Clean your home altar thoroughly. Ensure the altar is positioned in the North-East (Ishan Kona) corner of your home so devotees face East or North while praying.
Step 2: Sacred Sthapana
Spread a fresh yellow or red silk cloth on a raised wooden platform (Chowki). Place the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu along with Goddess Lakshmi and the Shaligram Shila.
Step 3: Kalash & Diya Setup
Install a sacred Kalash filled with clean water, mango leaves, and a coconut wrapped in red cloth. Light a cow ghee diya on the right side of the altar.
Step 4: Primary Offerings
Offer yellow flowers, Tulsi leaves, chana dal, jaggery, sandalwood paste, and fresh Amla fruits at the feet of Lord Vishnu.
Part 2: Amla Tree Worship & Offering Procedure
Whether you have an Amla tree in your courtyard or a potted Amla sapling on your Kolkata apartment balcony, perform these offerings during the morning mahurat:
1. Jal Abhishekam
Gently pour pure water mixed with raw milk, sandalwood, and a drop of Ganga Jal at the root of the Amla tree.
2. Tilak & Kalava Offering
Apply Chandan and Kumkum to the trunk of the Amla tree. Tie sacred red thread (Kalava) around the trunk seven times while reciting Vishnu mantras.
3. Dhup, Dip & Naivedya
Offer incense sticks, a lighted ghee lamp, fresh fruits, sweets, and raw Amla berries as sacred offerings (Naivedya).
4. Parikrama & Prarthana
Perform 9 or 108 clockwise circumambulations (Parikrama) around the tree while chanting "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya".
