The Step-by-Step Setup Process
Step 1: Choose and Clean the Direction
Select a quiet, clutter-free area in the North-East (Eeshan Kona) or East portion of your room. Thoroughly clean the floor and sprinkle a few drops of pure Ganga water to purify the zone.
Step 2: Position the Chowki & Banana Pillars
Place a sturdy wooden platform (Chowki or Altar table) and drape it elegantly with a clean, unwashed piece of yellow or red cloth. Traditionally, you must secure four upright banana leaves or tree pillars to the four corners of the chowki, forming a mini cosmic canopy or canopy entrance.
Step 3: Setup the Central Kalash
Spread a small mound of raw rice grains (Akshat) right in the center of the cloth. Place a copper or brass Kalash filled with water on top of it. Drop a betel nut, a coin, and a flower inside. Arrange 5 or 7 mango leaves across the rim, resting a coconut securely on top wrapped in sacred thread (Mauli).
Step 4: Placements of Deities and Sacred Items
Place the image or idol of Lord Satyanarayan right next to the Kalash. On the front-right side, position Lord Ganesha (who must be worshipped first). Prepare a separate brass tray containing your Panchamrit (the highly sacred blend of raw cow milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee) alongside fresh seasonal flowers, marigold garlands, and Tulsi leaves.
